| | **Kiri**: //"After being without a 'face' for about ten years, the Coronation Memorial Clock Tower at Kajang, is to be fitted with a new face. This has been made possible by the Government's decision to replace the clock which was destroyed during the last war. The prime mover behind this is Tuan Haji Abdul Aziz, the District Officer, who thinks it fitting that the 25-foot tower built at the edge of the Padang near Club Road in 1940 should once again put to use. With the curfew hours prevailing in the town, a prominent clock tower which chimes every half hour could help peace-loving citizens in town get home in time. A sum of about $1,200 is now available to pay for the new clock. Funds for erecting the clock tower came from surplus money from the Coronation Celebrations Fund in Kajang district. The idea of erecting the clock emanated first from Mr. A. Wear, the then Executive Engineer, Ulu Langat. Mr. R.C. Vass of Kuala Lumpur was then given the task of designing the tower. The memorial begun late in 1937, was not completed and put into use till January 1940. No one knew what happened to the clock during the last war, though some residents suspected it was looted."// (The Sunday Standard, 6 May 1951, Page 4: [[https://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/digitised/article/sundaystandard19510506-1.2.50|"Kajang Clock Tower Gets A New Face"]]). \\ |
